Where do the weight and height limits come from?
In a tandem jump, the instructor and passenger use one parachute system — one harness and one canopy. Equipment manufacturers clearly specify the maximum permissible load for the system, meaning the combined mass of the instructor, passenger and equipment. That is why drop zones specify weight limits: it is about safety and about ensuring that the canopy operates within the range it was designed for.
Maximum weight for a tandem jump: 110 kg
At PL Strefa, the maximum weight for a person jumping tandem is 110 kg, and the minimum height is 140 cm. A few rules worth knowing before booking:
- The weight that counts is your weight in the clothes you will jump in, not your “fasted morning” weight
- Above a certain threshold, an additional fee or individual assessment by the instructor may apply
- The limit is not a “penalty” — it is a consequence of the equipment parameters and the physics of landing: the greater the load on the canopy, the faster the approach to the ground
- If in doubt, it is best to contact the drop zone before booking and provide an approximate weight
It is not worth understating your weight when booking — the choice of equipment and safety depend on it.
Height and body proportions
Very tall or very short stature is usually not an obstacle. The key is proper harness fit and landing technique — the instructor will show you when and how high to lift your legs so that the landing is smooth. If there is a large height difference between the instructor and the passenger, the appropriate equipment configuration is selected.
Age and consent
Minors may jump if both parents (legal guardians) are present at the airfield; if one of them cannot come, a notarized consent signed by that parent is required. More: who can jump tandem. There is usually no upper age limit — overall health and fitness are what matter.
Health condition — when should you be cautious?
Contraindications to jumping may include, among others:
- serious spinal conditions
- heart and circulatory system diseases
- recent injuries, especially to the lower limbs
- some neurological conditions
If you have any health-related doubts, consult a doctor in advance. Safety is more important than one day in the calendar.
Pregnant women
Jumps are not intended for pregnant women — regardless of the stage of pregnancy.
Athletic people and those with greater mass
Muscle mass counts too — it is the total weight that matters, not body shape alone. Therefore, even very athletic people at a higher weight may be subject to an additional fee or individual assessment.
